Which Report is Right for You?

Choosing between the different levels of reports depends on the context and the needs of the client, as well as the depth of information required by various stakeholders. Here's a guide on what circumstances would necessitate which report levels:

1. Diagnostic Note:

Purpose:

This report is typically sufficient for clients who need a formal diagnosis for basic treatment and reimbursement purposes.

Circumstances:

  • When a client requires a documented diagnosis for insurance claims, billing, or initial treatment planning.

  • When the client or caregiver needs a concise document that summarizes the diagnosis and outlines treatment recommendations.

Stakeholders:

This is commonly used by healthcare providers, insurance companies, or schools requiring basic proof of diagnosis for services or accommodations.

2. Diagnostic Summary Report:

Purpose:

This report provides more detailed information, including a summary of assessment results and diagnoses ruled out, allowing for a more comprehensive understanding of the diagnosis.

Circumstances:

  • When additional detail is needed to support the diagnosis and outline why certain conditions were excluded.

  • When healthcare providers, educators, or insurance companies require a deeper understanding of the assessment process and outcomes.

Stakeholders:

This report is often used by specialists or additional healthcare providers involved in ongoing care or educational planning, and by insurance companies for detailed claims.

3. Comprehensive Evaluation Report:

Purpose:

This is the most detailed report, providing in-depth background, interpretation of assessments, and clinical discussions. It is suitable for complex cases or when a thorough understanding of the patient's condition is needed.

Circumstances:

  • When a deeper understanding of symptoms is required to build the most effective treatment plan.

  • When a more extensive diagnostic process is required due to complex symptoms or comorbid conditions.

  • When the client or caregiver needs a comprehensive document for educational planning, legal cases, or other formal purposes.

Stakeholders:

This report is often requested by specialists, therapists, schools, employers, or legal entities where a full evaluation is needed to determine accommodations, therapy or support services, or legal requirements.

More Information

SERVICES OUTSIDE OF CALIFORNIA:

Please be aware that our therapists are licensed to practice psychotherapy exclusively in California.

If you live outside of California, we would be glad to provide neurodiverse-informed coaching services but can NOT provide an assessment.

Insurance:

Our practice is an out-of-network provider; however, we gladly provide "superbills" for you to submit to your insurance company so long as you are in the state of California.

Read more on our INSURANCE INFO page.

Additional Charges:

Every diagnostic assessment is specifically tailored to the needs of each person.

Please be advised that there are times when:

  • additional factors arise beyond ASD and/or ADHD (such as OCD, depression, anxiety, learning disabilities...), or

  • a particular presentation of ASD or ADHD has an unusual amount of complexity.

In such cases, additional time may be required which will add to the cost. Your clinician will discuss this with you as soon as she or he becomes aware of the additional requirements.

Sessions:

  • All sessions are "telehealth", meaning Zoom or comparable platform.

  • All sessions are 50 minutes in length.

Qualifications of Clinicians:

All clinicians have received a graduate degree in psychology (Master's or doctorate), have graduate level training in psychological assessments, and have been trained in neurodiverse assessments. All written reports are reviewed and approved by our clinical director, Dr. Harry Motro.

Limitations:

Please also be aware of the limitations below:

  • We do NOT provide assessments to children (under 18 years old) as this is a distinct specialty.

  • We do NOT provide assessments outside of California; however, we would be glad to provide specialized neurodiverse coaching no matter where you live.

  • We do NOT administer assessments for adults without verbal fluency.

  • We do NOT provide assessments to clients who are solely seeking an assessment or clients who do not wish to receive individual or couples counseling.

We believe that knowledge of a diagnosis rarely provides enough healing for our clients. Knowledge needs to be combined with a clear plan to move forward and caring support.

  • We do NOT perform neuropsychological testing such as tests which specifically measure motor and psychomotor skills, memory, concept formation, visual-perceptual skills, degree of self-sufficiency in real-life situations, and academic achievement (performance in school-like subjects).

Such tests are often administered for children who need a broader scope assessment to determine intellectual function. Neuropsych testing is NOT required for an adult ASD or ADHD diagnosis.
