Take this screener if…

  • You suspect you've been hiding or suppressing your ADHD traits to appear more "normal" or capable.

  • You feel chronically exhausted after social interactions, work, or everyday demands — more than others seem to.

  • You push yourself to perfectionist standards, over-prepare, or take on too much to avoid being perceived as struggling.

  • You rely heavily on lists, systems, or checking behaviors just to keep up — and it's wearing you down.

  • You suppress physical energy, emotion, or natural behaviors in public, then feel depleted in private.

This 28-question screener explores how frequently you engage in masking behaviors related to ADHD. Higher scores indicate more intensive masking across more areas of your life.

Understanding Your Score

Total Score Range: 0–112

  • 0–22 — Very Low: Your responses suggest you engage in very few ADHD masking behaviors. You likely feel comfortable expressing your natural tendencies in most situations.

  • 23–44 — Low: You rarely engage in masking behaviors. While you may occasionally adjust how you show up, it's not a dominant pattern in your life.

  • 45–67 — Moderate: You occasionally mask ADHD traits. You may be putting moderate effort into appearing neurotypical, which can contribute to fatigue over time.

  • 68–89 — High: You frequently mask ADHD traits. This level of camouflaging often leads to burnout, anxiety, and difficulty knowing your authentic self.

  • 90–112 — Very High: You engage in very frequent masking across multiple areas. This intensity of camouflaging is strongly associated with exhaustion, anxiety, depression, and identity confusion.

Understanding Your Masking Profile

Your results don't just give you a total score — they show you a detailed breakdown across 7 subscales, so you can see exactly where your masking energy is going and what it may be costing you.

Each subscale is scored independently:

  • 💔 Emotional Suppression — How often you hide or hold back strong feelings

  • 🎭 Social Camouflaging — How much effort you put into monitoring and adjusting your behavior around others

  • 🗂️ Compensatory Organization — How heavily you rely on systems, lists, and checking to compensate for executive function challenges

  • 🏆 Overcompensation & Perfectionism — How often you push past your limits to prove your capability

  • ⚡ Physical Masking — How frequently you suppress movement, energy, or stimming behaviors

  • ⏰ Time Anxiety — How much anxiety around punctuality and appointments affects your daily life

  • 🙏 Attention & Apology — How often focus difficulties lead to excessive apologizing and negative self-perception

What Masking Can Cost You

Masking is not a character flaw or a choice — it's a survival strategy. But sustained masking at high levels is strongly linked to burnout, anxiety, depression, and a profound disconnection from your authentic self.

If your score is high, you're not broken — you're working harder than most people realize just to get through each day. Your score is a signal, not a sentence.

Understanding your masking profile is often the first step toward building a life that fits your neurotype, rather than one that requires you to constantly hide it
