Take this screener if…

  • You frequently feel emotionally exhausted from maintaining routines or social interactions.

  • You’ve noticed a recent decline in your ability to cope with everyday tasks.

  • You feel disconnected or “numb” even when physically present.

  • You find recovering energy takes much longer than expected.

This 24-question screener measures long-term burnout risk based on masking, stress, health strain, and recovery gaps over the past year. Higher scores suggest burnout may persist or return. For a fuller picture, take it with the ABSI-24 to assess both CURRENT burnout (State).

24 Questions

Who It’s For:

Adults (18+) who want to understand their long-term risk for autistic burnout—especially those who mask, push through exhaustion, or feel stuck in cycles of stress and shutdown.

Duration:

Approximately 5–7 minutes

What It Measures:

The ABTI‑24 assesses chronic patterns that contribute to autistic burnout over time. It focuses on:

  • Masking and Camouflage

  • Chronic Stress and Strain

  • Health and Well-being Disruptions

  • Barriers to Recovery and Rest

These factors may signal how likely burnout is to persist or return, especially without sustained support or changes in environment.

For a fuller picture, take this inventory alongside the Autistic Burnout State Inventory (ABSI-24), which measures your current burnout experience.

Understanding Your Score

Total Score Range: 24–120

  • 24–47: Minimal Burnout Risk
Your responses suggest you currently have some protective factors in place—such as rest, support, or alignment with your needs—that are helping reduce long-term burnout risk.

  • 48–83: Moderate Burnout Risk
You may face ongoing strain, effortful masking, or limited recovery time. These challenges can wear down your stamina over time, even if burnout doesn’t feel severe right now.

  • 84–120: Severe Burnout Risk
Your responses suggest significant and persistent burnout patterns. You may be experiencing exhaustion, sensory overload, emotional disconnection, and a reduced ability to keep up with everyday demands. This level of strain often requires rest, support, and long-term shifts in environment or expectations to heal.

Support for Recovery and Prevention

A high score doesn’t mean something is wrong with you—it reflects just how hard you’ve been working to function in environments that may not meet your needs.

Burnout is not a weakness or failure. It’s a signal that your body and mind are asking for change.

With neurodivergent-affirming support, it’s possible to reduce masking pressure, increase rest, and rebuild your sense of self and capacity over time.
